Moneycontrol October 21,2020 Reliance Jio and US-based Qualcomm will join hands to fast-track the deployment of 5G mobile internet based on homegrown technologies, putting India in an exclusive club of nations with the capability to offer superfast speeds of 1 gigabyte per second (Gbps) to users. The partnership builds on the commitment by Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, who announced in July that Jio was developing made-in-India 5G technology, giving the country control over coveted know-how that is the foundation of a digital economy. The two companies also announced that they achieved speeds of 1 Gbps on Jio’s 5G solution using a Qualcomm platform. For illustration, what this means is that it will be possible to download a typical movie with a file size of one gigabyte in just one second. The Telegraph Date: Aug 07, 2020 PTI,  Telecom operators have written to the department of telecommunications (DoT) for the early allocation of 5G spectrum so that they can start trials as early as September. The trials with different vendors are necessary as it will take six to nine months to get the relevant data and the optimum results, enabling the operators to prepare their strategy for the long delayed 5G auction. Opposition to the high base price set by the regulator and confusion over the participation of Chinese vendors have amplified the concerns of the telecom entities.  Besides, the operators have sought spectrum in three bands: 26Ghz and 24Ghz (mmWave bands), and 3.5Ghz. mmWave bands such as 26Ghz are meant for government agencies, but the operators want access to them because of their efficiency and have sought a base price for the 26Ghz spectrum.  S.P. Money Control Dated:July 20,202 Reliance Jio has sought spectrum in certain frequencies from the Department of Telecom for holding trials of the latest 5G technology, according to sources. The company's wholly-owned US-based subsidiary Radisys has already started selling some of the 5G solutions to foreign companies. According to sources, Reliance Jio on July 17 requested for 800 megahertz of frequencies in the 26 gigahertz (Ghz) and 24 Ghz band as well as 100 Mhz in 3.5 GHz band for running field trials in "urban centres like Delhi and Mumbai".
