Sebi fines NDTV, others for disclosure lapses

By: PTI | New Delhi |  Published: March 17, 2018  Capital markets watchdog Sebi has imposed a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on media firm NDTV and of Rs 3 lakh each on four individuals, including promoters Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy, for certain disclosure lapses. The order follows a probe by Sebi (Securities and Exchange Board of India) into alleged delay in disclosure about Rs 450 crore income tax demand — subsequently challenged by NDTV, which has been in cross hairs of various agencies — and about sale of some shares by a top company executive over four years ago. In its 23-page order dated March 16, Sebi imposed penalty of Rs 10 lakh on NDTV and Rs 3 lakh each on Prannoy Roy, Radhika Roy, Vikramaditya Chandra (group CEO at that time) and Anoop Singh Juneja (compliance officer). PM Narendra Modi iterates cost+50% plan, says many spreading rumours about MSP

The Indian Express, By: ENS Economic Bureau | New Delhi |  March 18, 2018  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reiterated the recent Budget announcement that minimum support prices (MSPs) for all notified crops would be at least 1.5 times their ‘cost’. Addressing the Krishi Unnati Mela 2018 at Pusa agri complex in the national capital, he said the Centre was actively engaging with the states to ensure that farmers take full benefit of MSPs. However, as he spelt out how the cost of crops would be computed for determining the MSPs, Modi did not include paid-out land costs, but added ‘interest on working capital’. The government’s plan, it seems, is to use a cost slightly higher than the so-called A2+FL, but not as high as C2, which includes more elements. However, the use of the A2+FL plus ‘interest on working capital’ formula might not stoke food inflation much, analysts said. The PM said many people were spreading rumours regarding MSPs and creating a ‘gloomy atmosphere’

The Hindu,  MARCH 18, 2018 Unrest in some parts of Ethiopia has been taking the form of a “colour revolution”, with a clear intent to seize power, Defence Minister Siraj Fegessa declared earlier this month as U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson arrived in Addis Ababa. A strike in Oromia, a hotbed of anti-government protests for over two years, was choking the capital. A state of emergency was declared in February after Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn resigned in the wake of continued protests. Musa Ali, the chief elder responsible for an over 30,000 sq. km portion of north-eastern Oromia, told this reporter that federal forces arrested the deputy commander of the regional police heading a riot squad. The deputy head of the western Oromia’s Kelem Wolega zone’s administration and security office was also arrested, the zone’s vice administrator Nebiyu Nabsu said, after the dismissal of his boss, held out as instrumental in forging police-community relations.
