Govt should make Indian aviation sector globally competitive: SpiceJet CMD

Live Mint 21 Oct 2019 Washington: As India has emerged as the one of the fastest growing civil aviation markets of the world, it is time that the government take steps to make the aviation sector globally competitive beginning with reduction on its tax structure, the head of a low-cost airline has said. Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet, in an interview to PTI rued that the civil aviation sector in India is highly taxed and identified it as one of the major stumbling blocks in making it globally competitive. "I think lowering of taxes and looking at aviation in a holistic sense as a job creator, as something that connects India to itself and to the world. Consulting, finance, sales and marketing firms are key recruiters at IIM-B summer placement

Nanda New Delhi: Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) Monday said that it has completed its summer placement with over 100 companies making 446 offers to its students in domains including marketing, finance and consulting. IIM-B said, of all the offers made, 127 were for the consulting domain from firms like Bain & Co (19), Accenture Strategy (18), Boston Consulting Group (13), AT Kearney (12), McKinsey & Co (11) and Nomura Consulting (6). While 79 offers were for marketing roles, 72 were for the finance and investment domains and 58 offers were in the broad domain of Information and Technology. There were 11 offers made in the Analytics by firms like American Express (4) and United Health Group and 16 offers from the operations sector including five from taxi aggregator Uber. Of the 72 offers were made by finance, banking and investments sector, Goldman Sachs made 13 offers, Avendus Capital (7), Citibank (5)

Indian Express 23 October, 2019 On October 4, Hyderabad Police was able to crack the murder case of an Isro (Indian Space Research Organisation) employee who was found dead in his flat on October 1. A facial recognition software confirmed that a man seen in a CCTV footage was the one wanted by the police. Earlier, on May 1, senior Telangana Police officers received a message from Bengaluru Police about a Telugu-speaking girl who was found in Mysuru and appeared to have lost her way. Officials at the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, which has a large jurisdiction on the outskirts of Hyderabad, ran the photo through the Facial Recognition System (FRS). Within a few minutes, the system correctly tracked the girl and she was reunited with her family the very next day. US bombed own airbase in Syria before withdrawing troops: Report

Hindustan Times Oct 21, 2019 The US armed forces demolished their own airbase in Al-Hasakah province in northeast Syria before abandoning it and withdrawing troops, Syrian media reported on Sunday. The United States bombed its military base with landing facilities for transport aircraft in the Tal Baydar settlement close to the town of Tal Tamr, where fighting between the US-backed Kurdish forces and the Turkish army is underway, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported.
