Pak snubbed for K-talk at corridor meet

The Tribune September 06, 2019 India snubbed Pakistan delegation when they tried to “indirectly” raise issues relating to J&K when the two sides met for the third round of talks on the Kartarpur corridor, as they were bluntly told to “stick to the agenda”. Sources close to the meeting, held yesterday on the Indian side at Attari, said the Pakistan side “tried to show their magnanimity” by saying they were there “despite their concerns over the recent developments on Kashmir” and said their government was “committed to complete” the project in time to facilitate pilgrimage as per schedule. The Indian side led by SCL Das, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, was quick to “rebuff”, as he “snubbed” the Pakistan officials by saying “don’t talk about concerns other than Kartarpur corridor, as we have greater concerns (cross-border terrorism) than you. Better we stick to the agenda rather than delve on other issue”, said a source. Noting that the Pakistan deleg

Kashmir issue does not concern Muslim community: UAE snubs Pak

Deccan Chronicle September 06, 2019 In another setback for Pakistan, visiting UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan has said that Kashmir is not an issue concerning Muslim Ummah (community) but rather a dispute between Islamabad and New Delhi. Foreign Ministers of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia, Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir arrived here on Wednesday to discuss the Kashmir issue that has been persistently internalised by Pakistan since India changed the constitutional status of the region. According to The News International, some Pakistani officials sought UAE minister's solidarity but instead he averred that Islamabad should not make the Kashmir issue a matter regarding Muslim community. He also urged that Pakistan and India should resolve the matter through talks between themselves. Al Nahyan and Al-Jubeir held meetings with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed B

UN body slams Islamabad for human rights violations in PoK

Daily Hunt September 03, 2019 At a time when Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is trying to ratchet up the Kashmir issue globally and alleged human rights violations, a UN report has warned that such violations in International NewsPakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) are far graver and "more structural in nature". The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in a report made several recommendations to the Pakistani authorities to address the concerns related to these violations in the region. The Government of Pakistan in response to the 2018 OHCHR report said the constitutional and legal structures in PoK and Gilgit-Baltistan protect the rights of its citizens. The OHCHR, also known commonly as the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, found that the concerns around human rights violations remain. The report highlighted that the UN body had credible information of enforced disappearances of people from PoK, prisoners held in se

India's BPCL buys US crude set to arrive in China after new tariffs kick in

Business Standards September 05, 2019 An Indian state-owned refiner has swooped in to buy American oil that was en route to China but due to arrive after new tariffs kicked in. Bharat Petroleum bought one or two cargoes of US crude that were recently diverted from its original destination of China, Refineries Director R Ramachandran said in an interview. He didn’t identify the seller, how big the shipments were, or the name of the ships. It’s possible BPCL could buy more American oil that was headed to China, he said. Beijing announced it would impose the 5 per cent levies -- the first ever Chinese tariffs on US oil -- on Aug 23 and they took effect Sept 1. Six tankers carrying about 12 million barrels of US crude were on the way to China at the time of the announcement. At least one of those vessels arrived before the deadline, while another ship may have offloaded its cargo at a port near Qingdao before the tariffs took effect. Unipec -- the trading arm of China’
