China agrees to cut tariffs on Indian cancer drugs: Foreign Ministry

India and China have reached an agreement on reduction of tariffs on the import of Indian medicines, particularly cancer drugs, to China, the Foreign Ministry said here on Monday, days after a  Chinese movie on a leukaemia patient  highlighted the need for paving the way for import of cheap Indian medicines. However, it is not yet clear whether China has agreed to grant licences to Indian companies to sell cancer drug in the huge market here, which could be a major step. About 4.3 million people are diagnosed with cancer annually in China, according to a report of the state-run China Central Television. Tourism ministry ends scheme to provide free SIM cards to foreign tourists on arrival

Hindustan Times By PTI   Updated: Jul 09, 2018 Under the scheme, foreign tourists availing e-visas were provided pre-activated free SIM cards on arrival in India. A scheme to provide free SIM cards to foreign tourists arriving in India to help meet their communication needs has been “discontinued” as it was felt “unnecessary”, tourism secretary Rashmi Verma said on Monday. Under the scheme, foreign tourists availing e-visas were provided pre-activated free SIM cards on arrival in India. The scheme was launched in February last year by the then tourism minister Mahesh Sharma. “It has been discontinued as it was felt not necessary to do so,” Verma said. She said foreign tourists use social media apps and Wi-Fi facility is also available in most places including at the airports. The BSNL SIM cards came with talk time of Rs 50 and 50 MB data. China successfully launches 2 satellites for ‘all-weather ally’ Pakistan

Hindustan Times By PTI Jul 09, 2018 The satellites, PRSS-1 and PakTES-1A, were launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China using a Long March-2C rocket, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. China on Monday successfully launched two remote sensing satellites for its “all-weather” ally Pakistan, which will also help the two countries monitor progress as they build the strategic $50 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The launch of the two satellites marks yet another space cooperation between China and Pakistan since the launch of PAKSAT-1R, a communication satellite, in August 2011. The satellites -- PRSS-1 and PakTES-1A --- were launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China at 11:56 am using a Long March-2C rocket, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. 24 persons killed in mob attacks in 2018; analysis shows such incidents rose 4.5-fold since 2017

Firstpost Jul 10, 2018 Two incidents of mob violence reported from Dima Hasao in Assam and Mangaluru in Karnataka on 6 July, 2018, take to 61 the number of mob attacks sparked by rumours of child-lifting circulated on social media since beginning of the year. So far this year, 24 persons have been killed in such mob attacks, an  IndiaSpend   analysis  of news reports from across India shows. This is more than 4.5 times rise in attacks and two-fold rise in deaths of this kind over 2017, when 11 persons were killed in eight separate attacks. Between 1 January, 2017, and 5 July, 2018, 33 persons have been killed and at least 99 injured in 69 reported cases. MHA raises objection to Industrial and Commercial Bank of China's proposal to open second branch in India

First Post FP Staff   Jul 09, 2018 Just days after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued a licence to Bank of China to launch operations in India, the Ministry of Home Affairs has reportedly raised objections to a proposal by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) to open a second branch in India. Sources quoted by  The Indian Express   said the MHA has voiced concerns that ICBC has employed more than the authorised number of Chinese nationals at its Mumbai branch. The MHA, according to the report, told the finance ministry that ICBC's Mumbai branch has about 11-12 Chinese nationals while it is only authorised to employ a total of three or four Chinese nationals. Further, only three-four Chinese nationals working with the ICBC are registered with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
