 Dawn Dated 02.12.2020 By: Anwar Iqbql UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations launched a $35-billion global appeal on Tuesday to help more than 235 million vulnerable people in 2021, including 10.5 million in Pakistan.  The world body is also seeking $285.3 million for Pakistan, where it is targeting about 3.3 million as the “most vulnerable and fragile.” The UN appeal explained that across the globe, a record 235 million people will need humanitarian assistance and protection next year, a near 40 per cent increase on 2020. The secretary general promised to “study the dossier and take appropriate action”, said Pakistan’s envoy to the UN Munir Akram, who presented the dossier to the UN chief on Tuesday afternoon. Pakistan reserved the right to “act in self-defence” against India’s unending aggressions, Akram warned. Pakistan also plans to draw the attention of relevant UN bodies, including the Security Council, to India’s sponsorship of terrorism. In his message on World  Water   Day, which falls on March 22, the UN chief said on Sunday that "the world's  water   resources are under unprecedented threat",  Xinhua  news agency reported. "Today, some 2.2 billion people lack safe drinking  water  and 4.2 billion people live without access to adequate sanitation.
