Infy arm to fund Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation

The Economic Times, BY PTI | JAN 29, 2018 Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of IT major Infosys, today said has signed a MoU with the Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation for a grant to create a child-friendly village towards improving children's health, providing education and creating a non-violent environment.  Infosys Foundation will disburse this grant over the next three years, a release said.  The Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation is a non-profit organization, envisions a world where every child is free, safe, healthy, educated and has the ability to discover their potential. EU committee recommends approval of Biocon-Mylan’s insulin glargine

Livemint,  Jan 29 2018 By Isha Trivedi, Mumbai Biocon Ltd and Mylan N.V. said on Monday that the European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) has issued a positive opinion and recommended approval of insulin glargine injection, co-developed by the companies, for diabetes treatment. The CHMP’s positive opinion will be considered by the European Commission and the regulator’s decision on approval of this product, to be sold under the name Semglee, is expected in April, the companies said in a joint press release. Court extends ED custody of Gujarat-based pharma firm’s director to February 7

By PTI, January 29, 2018 Sterling Biotech director Rajbhushan Omprakash Dixit is to be confronted with various documents and co-accused to unearth the larger conspiracy in a money laundering case related to a ₹5,000 crore bank fraud case. A Delhi court has extended till February 7 the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody of a director of a Gujarat-based pharma firm in a money laundering case related to a ₹5,000 crore bank fraud case. Additional Sessions Judge Sidharth Sharma extended the custody of Rajbhushan Omprakash Dixit, a director of Sterling Biotech, after Special Public Prosecutor Nitesh Rana, appearing for the ED, said his further custodial interrogation was required by the agency. Mr. Rana told the court that the accused, arrested on January 25, is to be confronted with various documents and co-accused to unearth the larger conspiracy. In an internal policy move, the government has also decided that core military hardware, such as battle tanks, combat vehicles and specialised military trucks, will remain in the domain of the government-owned enterprises. Defence sources, in fact, say the acceptance of necessity (AoN) for the around Rs 70,000 crore ($10.9 billion) diesel-electric submarine project called "Project-75 India" is set to expire once again on February 6 without "any concrete progress" being made to select the Indian shipyard and the foreign collaborator for it. Though the AoN for the project, which was first accorded way back in November 2007, will be extended, it must be remembered that it will take another seven to eight years for the first submarine to roll out after the final contracts are actually inked. UIDAI says Aadhaar an identification, not profilic

 PTI | JAN 29, 2018, New Delhi The UIDAI today sought to allay fears over data protection and privacy issues around the 12 digit biometric identifier, asserting that Aadhaar is an identification not a profiling tool.  It also stressed that Aadhaar data is governed by strong laws.  Fielding questions on Twitter in a live chat, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) CEO Ajay Bhushan Pandey said that Aadhaar is based on minimum information and biometrics which is "least intrusive".  To a specific query on whether UIDAI will go for DNA profiling in future, Pandey said that there were no such plans.  "We take fingerprint, Iris and photo...We have no plans to take something like DNA... photo, fingerprint and Iris is good enough for de-duplication, generating Aadhaar and to authenticate any person," he said.  The UIDAI chief dismissed concerns that linking of various information with Aadhaar could lead to government monitoring, surveilla

News 18, Mufti Islah  | CNN-News18, January 28, 2018,   The Jammu and Kashmir Police have filed a murder and attempt to murder case against Major Aditya of Garhwal Rifles for killing two Kashmiri civilians and causing injuries to eight others in firing at Ganowpora Shopian on Saturday. The FIR was filed at the behest of the ruling PDP-BJP government. Two people were killed and several others injured after the Army opened fire on protesters in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Saturday. The district administration had ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and set a deadline of 20 days for the probe report.
