Writing in the American publication, award-winning author Yudhijit Bhattacharjeeput forth a detailed narrative of how JeM founder and chief Masood Azhar has orchestrated attacks of violence against India over the past two decades following his release after the IC-814 hijack in the year 1999. The author said that Azhar's success in orchestrating a series of attacks on Indian soil in recent years has angered India to the point that eliminating him and his organisation has become a key strategic objective for India's security establishment. Last year, the JeM had claimed responsibility for the deadly Pulama terror attack that claimed the lives of 40 Indian Central Reserve Polic

Coronavirus is Indeed Wuhan Virus — Don’t Give China a Clean Chit

the quint March 22, 2020 Seema Sirohi The Shakespearean cliché “What’s in a name” has a new answer: “Everything.” Yes, the “Wuhan virus” by any other name would be just as deadly but naming it for its place of origin is important and the right thing to do. The whole world – repeat the whole world – is suffering because China caused a global pandemic. It hid the facts in the early stages, destroyed samples, silenced its doctors who sounded the alarm, refused to share information with other countries in time and used its clout in the World Health Organisation to underplay the human-to-human transmission. The great Chinese cover-up allowed the virus to spread exponentially for weeks. In that time 5 million Wuhan residents were allowed to leave the city without any medical checks. They travelled within China, spreading the virus to other cities and ultimately to other countries. “China Lied, People Died” is a well-deserved Twitter hashtag for China’s malign behaviour. Count

China sends masks, experts abroad to reshape coronavirus narrative

HindustanTimes March 21, 2020 Associated Press As the fight against a new virus shifts to Europe and beyond, China is supplying millions of masks and other desperately needed items to struggling governments, hoping to build political ties and defuse criticism that it allowed the disease to spread early on. Serbia’s president plans to be at the airport this weekend to welcome a shipment of medical supplies from his “brother and friend,” Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Xi’s government has flown gloves and protective clothing to Liberia. It is sending 100,000 test kits to the Philippines. More than 10 flights carrying millions of masks and other supplies are bound for the Czech Republic this week. China, said Czech Interior Minister Jan Hamacek, is “the only country capable of supplying Europe with such amounts.” It’s part of an effort by the Communist Party to reshape the narrative, from one of early missteps to a nation that acted decisively to bring the outbreak under contro

Lockdown not enough to defeat coronavirus - WHO

India Today March 23, 2020 Countries cannot simply lock down their societies to defeat coronavirus, the World Health Organization's top emergency expert said, adding that public health measures are needed to avoid a resurgence of the virus later on. Dr Mike Ryan said: "What we really need to focus on is finding those who are sick, those who have the virus, and isolate them, find their contacts and isolate them," in an interview on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show. "The danger right now with the lockdowns ... if we don't put in place the strong public health measures now, when those movement restrictions and lockdowns are lifted, the danger is the disease will jump back up." Much of Europe and the United States have followed China and other Asian countries and introduced drastic restrictions to fight the new coronavirus, with most workers told to work from home and schools, bars, pubs and restaurants being closed.
