Axis Bank buys payment wallets Freecharge for Rs 385 cr in all cash deal

By:  FE Bureau  |   Published: July 28, 2017 6:45 AM Axis Bank on Thursday said it had acquired payments wallet FreeCharge in an all-cash deal for Rs 385 crore. The purchase will help the lender enhance its digital banking services and tap into a larger customer pool. “The whole purpose is to leverage the agile innovate culture of a start-up and combine it with the trust factor of a bank. It can be best achieved by having an independent entity,” Axis Bank MD and CEO Shikha Sharma said. Sharma added that the acquisition was a strategic fit for the bank and would help create an agile technology platform to service digital customers. “The challenge is to leverage the strength of the two organisations to do something which is uniquely different and unique in the market place,” she said. Malware attack on MTNL broadband in Delhi

Times of India  Pankaj Doval |  TNN  |  Jul 28, 2017 Several broadband connections of state-run  MTNL  have been impacted in the national capital after a malware attack. The issue, which company officials claim is "under control now", impacted services at many households with malfunctioning of the broadband services. The impact on enterprise connections is still not clear, though sources say that operations were also impacted there. A top official at MTNL said that the company had noticed the issue since Thursday. "We have been taking action to sort out the matter, and are confident that the issue will be rectified very soon," the official, who requested anonymity, said. The financially-strapped telco, which is struggling to stay afloat, said that it is adopting a variety of measures to tackle the issue. "The modem has to be re-configurated to manage the problem."
