Great news for Kartarpur corridor pilgrims! India to construct ‘state-of-the-art’ passenger terminal building

Visiting Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara to get convenient for pilgrims! Soon, India will construct a “state-of-the-art” terminal for the Kartarpur corridor. The corridor will be built at a cost of Rs 190 crore. It is being said that the passenger terminal building (PTB) complex will be equipped with all the necessary passenger amenities in order to facilitate pilgrims intending to visit the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara. The popular Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara is located across the border in Pakistan. An official of Ministry of Home Affairs was quoted in a PTI report saying that for the construction of the “state-of-the-art” PTB complex at the Kartarpur Sahib corridor, the ministry has already approved a detailed plan.
The project got the ministry’s nod following the Cabinet decision in the month of November last year to construct the Kartarpur corridor, linking Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district to the International Border. This work has been reportedly entrusted to Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), which builds and operates integrated check posts along the land borders of India. The authority has been directed to complete the task on a fast-track basis, before November 2019, which marks the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
The official said that the design, as well as quality parameters, have been prepared considering the aspirations and religious sentiments of the followers of Guru Nanak Dev. For the development of the project which will be carried out in two phases, fifty acres of land has been identified. The development of phase 1 will be done over 15 acres, for which the land acquisition process has already commenced. The PTB complex will be built under phase 1 and is likely to have a fully air-conditioned building of around 21,650 sq metres built-up area. The official also mentioned that the PTB complex design has been inspired by the symbol ‘Khanda’ which stands for values of oneness and humanity. The building, which will be disabled-friendly will showcase murals and photographs based on rich Indian cultural values with attractive landscaping.
To facilitate the smooth movement of around 5,000 pilgrims per day, the complex will have adequate immigration and customs clearance facilities. Also, it will have open areas for cloakrooms, kiosks as well as adequate parking space, the official said. The passage up to the zero point on the Pakistan border will be covered. Additionally, a monumental flag pole of height 300 feet, bearing the tricolour will be erected at the International border. On the other hand, phase 2 of the project will cover the development of a visitors gallery, accommodation for pilgrims, a hospital and expanded amenities.
