Pakistan claims terrorist Farooq Devdiwala is their citizen

dailyhunt: May 29, 2018

Pakistan plans to derail India's attempts to deport India's most wanted terrorist Farooq Devdiwala. Pakistan authorities have claimed that Farooq is a Pakistani national and not Indian as claimed by Indian authorities to the Dubai Police.

Following a tip-off by Indian agencies regarding Farooq Devdiwala residing in UAE, Dubai Police apprehended the terrorist. Farooq was working for ISI, recruiting terrorists against India which led to a major inter-state terror module being busted.

As Indian officials stepped in to get custody of Devdiwala, against whom a red corner notice was issued in 2010, Pakistan officials have jumped in to claim that Devdiwala was a Pakistani national and not an Indian citizen as claimed by India.

Pakistan authorities have approached Dubai Police with documents and citizenship proofs to get custody of Devdiwala and to derail India's attempts to bust a terror module run by Pakistan against India from the UAE. Devdiwala other than planning to launch terror strikes in India was also planning to assassinate some top political leaders of the country on behest of ISI.

Pakistan playing the same card as they did in Munna Jhingada's case

Intelligence sources confirmed that Pakistan has now approached UAE authorities claiming that Devdiwala was a Pakistan national and that he was in UAE on a passport issued in Pakistan.

Pakistan attempts to sabotage India's efforts to extradite Devdiwala to India as this could bring to light the nexus between ISI and terrorists who have been trying launch terror attacks in the country.

Devdiwala is said to have been associated with Dawood Ibrahim earlier and was also involved in murder of former Gujarat Home Minister Haren Pandya in 2003 in the aftermath of Gujarat riots. Devdiwala is also believed to be involved in various other terror cases in Gujarat and Mumbai and had fled the country, reportedly to Pakistan with help from members of Dawood Ibrahim gang.

Devdiwala is said to have a close relationship with Indian Mujahideen founder Yasin Bhatkal and Riyaz Bhatkal too.

Terror module busted in Maharashtra Gujarat

After Devdiwala's arrest in Dubai, Indian agencies launched an operation to bust sleeper cells in Mumbai and Gujarat.

Faisal Mirza, Devdiwala's cousin was arrested on May 11 and is believed to have been sent for terror training to Pakistan by Devdiwala in March this year. Mirza's arrest also led to one more terrorist's -- Allarakha Mansuri -- arrest. Allarakha Mansuri was from Gandhinagar, Gujarat and was arrested on May 16.

Mansuri was earlier associated with the gang and had also been sent for terror training with Mirza and few others to Pakistan in March this year.

The module was formed to launch attacks in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh for which the accused were conducting recee.

Maharashtra ATS said the arrest was a major setback to terror elements who were planning attacks on Indian soil. This also led to one more arrest of an associate of Devdiwala from Sharjah in UAE last week. The arrested person is identified as a resident of Bhende bazar in Mumbai, who was also associated with the Dawood gang earlier.

Munna Jhingada case

Sayyed Muzakkir Mudassar Hussain alias Munna Jhingada was the shooter who shot Chota Rajan in Bangkok alongwith two other Pakistani shooters on Chota Shakeel's orders in the year 2000.

Jhingada was arrested in 2002 and charged with attempted murder and murder by Bangkok police. Jhingada was sentenced to 14 years in jail by a Bangkok court.

India attempted to get Jhingada's custody by submitting documents establishing his Indian nationality but Pakistan produced his Pakistani passport. Pakistan also produced his wife and children who had left the country with him in late nineties. Indian officials submitted a dossier of Jhingada and also DNA samples of his parents but he refused to go for a DNA test.

Jhingada's case is yet to be decided regarding who will be getting his custody, Pakistan or India.

Pakistan using the same modus operandi to derail India's attempts to get Devdiwala

Pakistan officials have approached the Dubai police with a copy of Devdiwala's passport which has been issued in Pakistan and was used for his stay in the UAE.

Devdiwala had also claimed that he was a Pakistani national but the RCN against him issued by Interpol is being used by Indian authorities to claim his custody. Devdiwala's arrest is a big catch for Indian agencies who will get to know more about the Dawood Ibrahim, his associates, ISI and Pakistan sponsored terror in India.

Devdiwala is also said to be close to Amir Raza the Pakistan-based Indian Mujahideen handler who gave training to Faisal Mirza and Allarakha Mansuri alongwith few others in Pakistan in March this year. His arrest would be a setback to Pakistan if he is handed over to India and will bring to light the Pakistan ISI's tactics of carrying terror acts in India.

Meanwhile Maharashtra ATS has questioned some of the close associates of Devdiwala who were once associated with Devdiwala when he operated from Musafirkhana in Mumbai.
