Standing Committee wants clarity on framework agreement signed in 2015

The parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs has asked Naga interlocutor R.N. Ravi to appear before it to explain the status of the Naga framework agreement that was signed in 2015.

A senior government official said the panel headed by senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram asked Mr. Ravi to appear before the panel when it met last week to discuss the “security situation in the northeastern States of India”.

Mr. Ravi and Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba have been asked to be present on November 27, an official said.

The Centre recently gave a one-year extension to Mr. Ravi, Joint Intelligence chief who signed a framework agreement on behalf of the Union government with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) group to end the decades-old Naga insurgency.

Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, all BJP-ruled States that have Naga populations, have refused to part with any land to make the peace deal a success. The Centre is yet to spell out the details of the Naga agreement.

For Naga unity

The NSCN-IM has been fighting for ‘Greater Nagaland’ or Nagalim — it wants to extend Nagaland’s borders by including Naga-dominated areas in neighbouring Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, to unite 1.2 million Nagas.

“The panel met earlier to discuss the security situation in the North East states and the Naga peace deal is a crucial aspect. We have asked Mr. Ravi to appear before the panel and tell us the status of the peace deal, if any. It has been three years since it was signed but we have not seen any results,” a parliamentarian said.

‘Settlement soon’

The Centre and the NSCN-IM had earlier issued a joint statement that they were “closer than ever before to the final settlement and hope to conclude it sooner than later.”

In October, for the first time in 20 years, Mr. Ravi met all the stakeholders in Nagaland’s capital Dimapur and told the Naga groups that Prime Minister Narendra Modi kept asking him about the progress of the talks and they should not waste time now.

As financial insecurity rises in urban India, so does investment in insurance

Up to 58% of them fret over financial independence post retirement, which is a 4% increase from last year. ED tracks Swiss Bank A/Cs of Agusta scamster

The Poineer February 10,2019 Rakesh K Singh The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has tracked a dozen Swiss bank accounts in the name of Rajiv Saxena, who is key accused in the Rs 3,600 crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam. The ED has also found out accounts held by  his family members and associates where the kickbacks in the now scrapped deal were allegedly parked. Two bank accounts are in the name of Rajiv Saxena’s  associates Pankaj Jain and Sumita Jain who are also the authorised signatories. The  third is in the name of another associate Ajit Singh Bubber, but Rajiv and his family members are authorised signatories. The remaining nine accounts are largely owned and operated by Rajiv, his family members and associates. Rajiv Saxena was deported by the UAE authorities on January 30 and the ED formally arrested him the next day and a court later granted his remand to the agency.
